Maritime 3D Printing
With its first “Maritime 3D Printing” special show area, the worlds leading trade fair for the maritime industry created at last SMM for the first time a dedicated stage for the presentation of the innovative production technology, that will fhange the global flow of products and revolutionise shipping in many aspects.
Massive time savings, reduced construction and material costs, as well as significant weight reductions are just some of the benefits of 3D printing, whose potential ranges from just-in-time parts supply to the manufacturing of entire ships.
At SMM 2022, renowned and international exhibitors will present their offerings and their know-how at the enlarged special show area. Leading experts will answer the questions of the trade visitors who can experience additive manufacturing live on site.
We are looking forward to your visit at SMM 2022.

Shape optimizations for 3D Printing – is the outcome worth the effort?
06. September 2018, 15:30 - 16:00, Room B5.2
Additive manufacturing is one of the most promising novel technologies within the industry 4.0. Apart from other advantages, it allows the designer to create entirely new shapes for technical applications. These innovative solutions for existing technical applications can be found by using Finite Element Simulation and shape optimization.
In this presentation, I want to show the potential of the optimization by means of a demo case. Furthermore, I want to discuss if the outcome is always worth effort of the optimization or if there are more effective alternatives being suitable for industrial usage.

MMG – 3D print in large scale
06. September 2018, 14:30 - 15:00, Room B5.2
MMG is one of the first companies in the maritime industry that uses additive manufacturing to support their production processes for tailor-made marine propeller. In order to prepare the casting of these small batch series each propeller type needs an accurate pattern equipment. MMG has recently started to print these pattern equipment using additive manufacturing. Due to the size of these parts special 3D-printing in large scale is necessary. Dr. Greitsch introduces you to their approach of printing in large scale.

Additive manufacturing with arc and wire (3DMP®) – actual status and potentials of a promising technology for maritime applications
04. September 2018, 15:30 - 16:00, Room B5.4
The 3DMP® process is the first additive process ever to enable simple components to be produced economically - even in direct comparison with conventional machining methods. The 5-axis processing provides a variety of geometric freedoms, such as the realization of cavities, which make it possible to reduce the weight of components.
The wide range of materials by using the 3DMP® process opens up completely new possibilities for the production of components for maritime applications.
